ON-SITE
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is the art of organising your web pages so that the search engine "crawlers" from sites such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL etc. are more readily able to analyse, and file, your web pages for the benefit of others who may be seeking your services.
It is a necessary combination of clear text using your essential keywords implanted intelligently in such a way that you explain - both to your client and the the search engines - just exactly what your product, service, business or message is all about.
This is achieved through sensible and intelligent use of The Title, The source code Description, Keywords (but not too many!), Headers, Feeder files (eh Sitemap.xml/Urllist.txt etc), Alt text and others.
Each seperate page must have its own version of the above.
Refreshing your pages from time to time.
And - very importantly - avoiding all the "bad" methods that are employed by the bandits - the engines WILL pick these up eventually - and you could get permanently banned.
OFF-SITE
Google adwords, Outside Links to your site - avoiding reciprical linking and link "farms" are examples of off-site SEO.
WDIS will arrange in the on-site design package the most "engine-friendly" pages and submit them to all the major engines.
